10/1: Hanoi, Vietnam
We are having an incredible journey. Everything is fantastic. When we arrived at Bangkok, the welcome was very, very VIP. Everything was easy and quick. Halong Bay has magic and we think it may be the second best place we have ever seen, just after Iguazu Falls. We are having one of the best trips of our lives; I am sure it will be the best. Thank you in advance, and we will be in touch with you soon again.
Our best and warmest regards
10/5: Hoi An, Vietnam
We are having a gorgeous trip. We are about to finish our stay at the Nam Hai; it is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. We have also very much enjoyed Hue and La Residence. As we are staying in the Residence Suite, we feel like stepping out on our veranda and making a speech to the people of Hue. Again we are having a very, very great journey.
Our warmest and thanks to all of you
10/9: Can Tho, Vietnam
Dear Catherine, Bruce and Jay,
Just a few words for letting you know how a great trip we are having. The Nam Hai was a sublime experience; we had two female butlers at our villa and on hand 24/7 if we wished it! The service and staff were fantastic. It was a pity to leave the place, but life and trips are like that. Duc from Remote Lands is responsible for our trip here in Vietnam and he is very helpful and sometimes he anticipates our wishes. So we feel very sure and happy with him.
Now we just have arrived to Victoria Resort, in Can Tho. It has been a great experience to sail in the Mekong River, and as you say "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." The unexpected is always more interesting than the expected. So just be sure that we are still having one of the best journeys we ever been on.
All in the party send their warmest regards
10/13: Siem Reap, Cambodia
Dear Catherine and Bruce,
Thank you for calling us yesterday. I think we updated you quite a bit by telephone but I wanted to let you know that everything is again fantastic and this place is terrific.
Our wedding vow renewal was very moving and colorful. The entire village processed after us, and they all dressed up for the occasion! It was unforgettable and we all laughed so much: the little boys were tickling our feet when we were on our knees!
I would like to share with you the words I said to Amelia: "Amelia, after almost 37 years of abusing your patience, you have become the calm after my storms; the balsam when my wounds were open; the good sense when my madness came out. For all of these I want to renew our wedding vows and give you this ring to affirm my engagement with you. I love you." I gave Amelia a platinum wedding ring, which was inscribed with "Campuchea 12-10-2008."
Sir Winston Churchill said: "we are not difficult to please, we are always happy with the best". And we are having the very, very best time, so we are very, very happy.
Our warmest regards
10/15: Luang Prabang, Laos
Dear Catherine and Bruce,
Thank you for your phone call yesterday. Laos is very different. We gave alms to the monks early in the morning: so colorful! We are still laughing a lot and we feel very happy and fortunate to have the opportunity to make this wonderful journey.
Our very best and warmest regards
10/20: Bangkok, Thailand
Dear all of our Remote Lands friends,
Just a few words: thank you very much for this wonderful journey. Everything has been a dream and we feel so happy that we do not have enough words to let you know how we feel. The tastes we have on our palates and the sweet memories we have in our minds will be with us for a long, long time.
I will write you a long email about this unforgettable trip when we get back to Madrid, but be sure that we think you are the very best in this job.
Thank you very much again and we send you our very best and warmest regards
(we are at Bangkok airport waiting for our flight back home)
10/29: Back at home in Madrid, Spain
Dear Catherine,
Let me tell you about our days in Cambodia. We had to take off from Saigon airport earlier, because the Prime Minister was flying or landing more or less at our same time, and the Vietnamese close the airport for two hours! Incredible.
The staff at Amansara is like a family and they make you feel at home. The staff was fantastic, smiled all the time, and knew in advance what we needed. Did you phone them everyday to let them know our wishes? So nice of you! We even had gazpacho at lunch; the chef was very curious and we gave him some recipes, and he was open to trying them. I love to cook!
We visited Angkor Wat in the afternoon where it rained cats and dogs. It was the end of the monsoon and very impressive!
Our warmest and best of the best regards
